The BASR

(Bolt Action Sniper Rifle)

Cals: .22-250, 6mm PPC, .308, .30-06 and .300 Winchester Magnum

In a somewhat unusual move for Heckler and Koch, USA, they marketed a bolt action rifle made by a small company in Florida owned by a man named James Hare. A sales leaflet from 1986 touts the BASR as 'state of the art.' The leaflet is reproduced below, and shows James Hare firing the rifle.

The brochure states that the BASR had a matte black Kevlar stock, that it was drilled and tapped for the # 35 Weaver mount, a custom action that guaranteed 1/2 minute of angle accuracy and different variations of light, medium or heavy rifles that were made to order, presumably. It came from the factory with a 4 lb. adjustable trigger. It lists the calibers as above, and probably was intended to be made to offer in the caliber of the buyer's choice. Only five production models were ever made, and all went to a police agency in Colorado. They were all chambered in .308 caliber. The BASR, a small story in the overall scheme of things, but worth telling, nonetheless!
